St Patrick’s Day Parade in Galway: A Peruvian Story with Patrick the Llama 🇮🇪🦙
Share
Every year, the streets of Galway fill with music, colour and celebration for St Patrick’s Day.
But this year, something different walked through the parade…
A small group of Peruvians — and a llama.
Even though we are a small community in Ireland, we wanted to be part of something bigger.
St Patrick’s Day is not just an Irish celebration — it’s a moment where cultures come together.
And we asked ourselves:
What if Peru could be part of that story too?
It wasn’t perfect.
Outfits didn’t arrive on time. Plans changed.
But somehow, everything came together — not perfectly, but meaningfully.
And then… there was Patrick.
A handmade alpaca llama, designed between Peru and Ireland, who became part of the experience.
People stopped. Smiled. Took photos.
Some said: “Only in Galway.”
There was a moment that stayed with us.
Hearing Latin music, seeing flags, feeling seen — far away from home.
When you live abroad, moments like this mean more than they seem.
This wasn’t just about a parade.
It was about identity, visibility, and connection.
About showing that even a small community can bring something meaningful to a big stage.
