Unique Gifts for Horse Lovers in Ireland: Our Dublin Horse Show Story

Unique Gifts for Horse Lovers in Ireland: Our Dublin Horse Show Story

Finding a truly unique gift for a horse lover in Ireland isn't always easy.

There are plenty of practical equestrian gifts, but sometimes you're looking for something completely different — something soft, handmade and full of personality.

For Happy Llama, that search led to an unexpected new member of our little family.

A horse.

But not quite the kind you might expect.

From Peru to the Dublin Horse Show

In August 2026, Happy Llama travelled from Galway to Dublin for five incredible days at the Dublin Horse Show at the RDS.

It was our first time exhibiting at the show, and we knew we wanted to create something special for the occasion.

Happy Llama has always been about bringing together Peruvian craftsmanship and the stories we create here in Ireland. Our handmade alpaca llamas have travelled from Peru to homes all around Ireland and beyond.

But for one of Ireland's biggest equestrian events, we thought our llamas needed some new friends.

That's how our alpaca horses arrived.

A Different Kind of Horse Gift

Handcrafted in Peru using beautifully soft alpaca fibre, our horses were created as a special addition to Happy Llama for the Dublin Horse Show.

And then we got to see something we couldn't experience through a website.

People touched them.

They picked them up.

They smiled.

One visitor's reaction captured it perfectly:

“It feels like a real one. It's gorgeous.”

For us, that moment said everything.

These weren't simply another horse-themed souvenir.

The texture, handmade details and individual personalities made people stop and take a closer look.

And in a show surrounded by magnificent real horses, it was lovely watching our little alpaca horses find admirers of their own.

Why Handmade Gifts Feel Different

Horse lovers tend to have a very personal connection with horses.

That's why a meaningful horse gift doesn't necessarily need to be riding equipment or something practical.

Sometimes it can simply be something that reminds someone of an animal they love.

Because our pieces are handmade, small variations in colour, expression and details are part of their character.

No two feel exactly the same.

That makes them especially lovely as:

- Gifts for horse lovers

- Birthday gifts for equestrians

- Keepsakes for young riders

- Horse-themed gifts in Ireland

- Special reminders of the Dublin Horse Show

- Meaningful gifts for someone who seems to already have everything horse-related

Five Days Surrounded by Horses

The Dublin Horse Show was also much more than a place for us to sell.

For five days, Happy Llama became part of a world filled with riders, families, horse lovers and visitors from Ireland and abroad.

We met so many people at our stand.

Some discovered Happy Llama for the first time.

Others couldn't resist touching our incredibly soft alpaca creations.

And some of our horses and llamas left the RDS with their new families.

There was something wonderfully funny about watching thousands of people come to Dublin to see horses…

…and seeing some of them leave carrying a llama.

That's Happy Llama.

From the Andes to Ireland

Although the Dublin Horse Show inspired this special chapter, the story actually begins thousands of kilometres away.

Happy Llama is a Peruvian-Irish small business based in Galway.

Our alpaca creations are handcrafted in Peru by skilled artisans and carefully selected and finished in Ireland.

It's the combination at the heart of everything we do:

Peruvian craftsmanship. Irish inspiration. Lots of personality.

What started with our llamas has gradually grown into a collection of animals and gifts designed to make people smile.

The Dublin Horse Show gave us the perfect opportunity to bring the horse into that story.
